We’re thrilled to announce the addition of two new barre tenders to the B Team: Lisa and Olivia!
We asked them to tell us a little bit more about themselves in their own words. Without further ado…meet Lisa!
“I love how graceful Kara is with both her movement and her words. She is so sweet you almost don’t realize she’s trying to kill you.”
We asked you to tell us what you thought of Barre Tender Kara and one of her most infamous signature moves:
I have what you might optimistically call a high threshold of tolerance for clutter.
It’s a running joke in our house that once a thing–a stack of papers, a stray chapstick, a stapler, a scarf–has been in a certain spot for more than a week or two, that’s just where it goes now. It truly becomes invisible to me. My husband, who conversely can’t stand clutter, is constantly fluttering around straightening up and moving my things.
“Babe, where’d you put my chapstick?”
“The chapstick that was on the kitchen counter.”
“I probably put it away. Why was it on the counter?”
“I don’t know! BECAUSE THAT’S WHERE I KEEP MY CHAPSTICK NOW.” Continue reading “On Stealing Your Own Peace”
Here’s a beautiful reflection from Barre Beauty Morgan, on discovering her worth and strength deep within her own heart…
I took my stretching outside to soak up tonight’s beauty. As I was stretching I noticed how many bruises and scars I have covering my very tired legs. Though they definitely aren’t pretty, they are strong. When my head told me that I should give up, my legs and heart have always worked together to push me forward, even when I wasn’t nourishing them to do so. As 2015 winds down, we can’t help but marvel at what a ride it’s been at B Present Studio. It’s hard to believe that at this time last year, our team and our studio were about half the size that they are today. The new year brings with it a chance for both reinvigoration and reflection; as we look ahead to all the promise that 2016 holds, we also look back in gratitude for all that 2015 had to offer: Continue reading “2015 Year in Review”
Carrie has been a B Present barre tender since January 2015, and recently took on an additional role as a wellness coach in the new B Well arm of B Present Studio. She is also a 6th grade teacher in the Edwardsburg school system.
How long have you been teaching at B Present?
I was in the January 2015 training class and started student teaching after that, but had to take a short hiatus–I had a calcium deposit in my shoulder and had to take some time off to recover from that–so I actually started teaching my own classes in May.
“Remember your WHY. Why are you here today?”
Listen in on a typical barre class at B Present Studio. You’ll hear the pulsating beat of the music, and the huffing and puffing of your mat neighbors between sets of planks and pushups. Maybe you’ll hear some grumbling or choice words aimed at the instructor as she cheerfully chirps “Pulse, pulse, pulse!” and “Last eight!” (this is almost always a lie).

“As I walked through the doors of B Present Studio for my very first class ever and, all by myself, I was a little nervous. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. As the class started and Tammy introduced herself, I remember thinking, “What did I just get myself into?” I tried to talk myself into leaving class, but I knew that wasn’t my purpose. I couldn’t leave, I was here for something. That is when I heard Tammy say, “Why are you here? What is your why?” I thought for a brief moment she was talking directly to me. How did she know what was running through my head? Tammy’s class was so inspiring and positive. I knew I was getting more than just a workout that day. As the sweat poured off me, I knew I couldn’t leave. That was the beginning of my journey at B Present.

“For the last 15 years, I have been nursing a bad back. I’m 31- that’s almost HALF of my life. I suffered a stress fracture to my L4 vertebra playing soccer, and since then my back has seemed to be a downward spiral of dysfunction. After seeking help from a series of doctors throughout my high school and college years, I came to accept that back issues would likely be a part of my life forever. By January, 2014 the ongoing nuisances had become pretty severe pains that began to affect my quality of life and my ability to be an active mother to my three young children. Every afternoon, like clockwork, I got a persistent tension headache that wouldn’t let up until I slept at night. I almost always went to bed with aching legs and the mobility in my neck was worsening weekly. Sometimes I couldn’t stand up straight for a week.

“I started attending B Present Studio almost two years ago! I was doing Insanity at the time and thought I could easily do this class. BOY WAS I WRONG! The class was TOUGH! Even so, I fell in love with it! I was hooked after the first class and became a monthly member and have been ever since.
Two years ago, when I was just getting into working out, my main goal was to control my weight and tone. I think most people have physical reasons for why they may want to start working out. B Present will give you physical results quickly, but what I did not realize I would get was results in many different aspects of my life.

“I was fortunate enough to hear about your studio from a lady I cycle with this summer. I have been attending your classes for about 2 months now. I wanted to take a few minutes out of my day to express my gratitude for the B Present experience. In just two short months, I have been changing from the inside out!
“The first time I attended barre was in Tammy’s basement for a fundraiser. At that point I was working out pretty consistently at a local gym (multiple aerobic classes and spinning), so I thought I would be ready for this workout.
Not. Even. Close.
I had no idea how challenging the class would be and felt like I was a newcomer to group exercise. The funny thing about it was that even though I felt like a complete novice… I totally loved it! Fast forward to today. There are still workouts when I feel like I am a complete novice, but each time I come I know I grow stronger…yet there are still a million ways that I know I can improve.
