“My first experience at B Present was with my MOTS group from church.  I wasn’t looking for a new place to work out. I was already attending classes that I really enjoyed, but this place was different. I remember coming home and telling my husband how hard and awful it was, but that I was thinking of buying a 10 pack. He just looked at me and laughed. This was almost two years ago. I didn’t know at the time how this place would challenge and change me at the same time.

I was a mom with an almost one year old so getting him ready and heading out the door was challenging. This is when I first began to realize how I needed this place for “me time.”  I have struggled with anxiety over the last few years, so trying new things was difficult.

In 2011 we lost our first baby boy, William, at 33 1/2 weeks pregnant due to an umbilical cord wrapped around him. This came as a complete shock after a perfect pregnancy. We struggled with the loss but we were not ready to give up our hope for a child. We found out 6 months later that we were pregnant with identical twin boys. We were so excited and couldn’t believe our good fortune. We felt so blessed by this miracle. It was a healthy pregnancy until our 18 week ultrasound where we found out the boys suffered from Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome. Two different operations were performed trying to save them but we lost our boys, Miles & Foster at 20 weeks. These events caused me anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.  I was really hurting inside. I got pregnant 4 months later and it was a battle dealing with my past. I didn’t work out for fear of hurting the baby. I was scared every day until Finn arrived in January of 2013. So when I found out I was pregnant again, I decided this time I wasn’t going to let fear guide me. I wanted to keep doing the things that made me feel good and working out at the barre was one of them.  I knew I could do it, but I needed help. The barre tenders at B Present gave me that push. I was inspired by several different women I would see at the barre throughout their pregnancies.

I suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks in September 2014 and had to take a few weeks off from the barre. This again showed me how this place had changed me and how strong I was becoming. I needed and wanted to be back, pushing myself and hearing the positive words coming from the instructors. We found out in February 2015 we were pregnant again, my 5th pregnancy in 4 years. I’m happy to say, with the encouragement from not only the barre tenders but by the other women I was working out with, I made it to 39 weeks, embracing the shake all the way. They were constantly talking to me before and after class telling me how strong I was and how I inspired them. They didn’t know it, but it was just what I needed to hear and provided the motivation to keep on going. I needed this place more mentally then I knew when I signed up just two years ago. I felt stronger than ever with this pregnancy, no swelling like before, no bed rest or sciatic pain, and I was 20 lbs. lighter. I also really wanted to deliver without an epidural and was able to do it after 27 hours of labor. There was a time during those last few hours of labor where I was ready for the epidural. I was tired and in extreme pain but my husband helped reassure me that I could do it. We talked after I gave birth and he said, “You’re physically and mentally so strong, I know B Present helped get you to this point.”

“I’m forever grateful to this place for helping me to choose faith, not fear, to guide me.”

We welcomed Duke Henry to our family on November 2nd – a perfect little boy weighing in at 7.4 lbs. This place is more than a physical workout for me. The teachers are constantly asking “what’s your why?”  Well for me it was always my family. I want to be a healthier mom, wife, sister, aunt and friend.

I’m forever grateful for this place, helping me to choose faith, not fear to guide me. Thank you to all the strong women I have the opportunity to work out beside….” She believed she could, so she did.”

Pass the tissues, please. ❤
