Check out Crystal Halfman’s barre story, featured in our August 2015 newsletter:
“As I walked through the doors of B Present Studio for my very first class ever and, all by myself, I was a little nervous. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. As the class started and Tammy introduced herself, I remember thinking, “What did I just get myself into?” I tried to talk myself into leaving class, but I knew that wasn’t my purpose. I couldn’t leave, I was here for something. That is when I heard Tammy say, “Why are you here? What is your why?” I thought for a brief moment she was talking directly to me. How did she know what was running through my head? Tammy’s class was so inspiring and positive. I knew I was getting more than just a workout that day. As the sweat poured off me, I knew I couldn’t leave. That was the beginning of my journey at B Present.
Never had I worked out like that in my life. I came back. This time I had some idea what I was getting into. I realized by the end of my second class that I was hooked. Not only was I getting in a great work out, but I was somehow getting inspired. Inspired by Tammy, inspired by all the women who were in class with me. I couldn’t wait to come back.
I’m not exactly sure in which class it finally clicked what my “why” was, but when it clicked I was empowered, My why, at first, was to lose weight. After my first two months of barre classes, my why became something more, something personal. I lost 10 lbs in the first two months, but that didn’t seem to matter anymore. My why, became my “me” time. The time that mothers often feel the most guilty for having. I take care of everyone else. My “why” was the balance I needed in my life. Who knew?
“I have lost over 25+ pounds since December. But it isn’t really about what I have lost, it is what I have gained at B Present: joy, peace, patience, kindness, love & friendships.”
As my two times a week quickly grew to now six times a week, I realized how empowering all the Barre Tenders are at B Present. I love how raw they are with their own day to day struggles. Its always nice to see how, when a little negativity comes their way, the Barre Tenders find a positive way to handle it. Going to a place to workout with such a positive influence makes your day so much better.
I have been married for 11 years to my wonderful husband Ron. We have two beautiful children. I also take care of my father. Along with taking care of my family, I volunteer at church. I am always “giving” me to everyone else. I realized my “why” was an important piece that was missing. I shouldn’t feel guilty or selfish. This one hour for me, makes me the best version of me. My family who needs me everyday should only deserve the best, so it only seems fitting that they should get the best version of me.
I can assure you my journey is not over, this just the beginning! I have lost over 25+ pounds since December. But it isn’t really about what I have lost, it is what I have gained at B Present. I have gained more than just strength. I have gained joy, peace, patience, kindness, love & friendships that I will be forever grateful for. Thank you B Team for always giving your best, so I can always give mine.”
