Check out Heather Short’s barre story, featured in our January 2015 newsletter:

“The first time I attended barre was in Tammy’s basement for a fundraiser. At that point I was working out pretty consistently at a local gym (multiple aerobic classes and spinning), so I thought I would be ready for this workout.

Not. Even. Close.

I had no idea how challenging the class would be and felt like I was a newcomer to group exercise. The funny thing about it was that even though I felt like a complete novice… I totally loved it! Fast forward to today. There are still workouts when I feel like I am a complete novice, but each time I come I know I grow stronger…yet there are still a million ways that I know I can improve.

“Believe me, I get it when people say they don’t have time to work out, but we can all make time for the things that are important to us.”

unnamed (3)The instructors challenge you to put forth your best effort, but not to compare yourself with the others in the room. I used to play competitive tennis but a serious knee injury ended that years ago. Attending barre classes has actually strengthened my knees so much that when I went to my orthopedic doctor last summer, he was shocked at the significant improvement. I know my range of motion can’t and won’t compare to some others in the room, but I know that I can still get a great workout in without compromising my knees.

Believe me, I get it when people say they “don’t have time to workout,” but I also know that we can all make time for the things that are important to us. I work full time, am a wife and a mother to two fabulous kids, and have recently started my Ph.D, so I know all about the value of time-management. I also know that Tammy (and her team) have done nearly everything in their power to eliminate the excuse not to attend.

What never ceases to amaze me is the energy and positive outlook I leave classes with. Tammy has such a magical way of delivering “words of wisdom” wrapped in a message that seem to speak directly to each person in the room. I am positive that when I take on certain challenges, the perseverance that is necessary to complete a barre class carries over into all aspects of my life, and for that I am eternally grateful.

I can’t write this without also sharing that I am completely guilty of shooting her dirty looks after another “just 8 more” or rolling my eyes when she uses my least favorite phrase of all “abs are made in the kitchen” (surely she knows by now that part of the reason I do this several times a week is so I can eat and drink what I want, right???), but the truth of the matter is that B Present studio has transformed more women’s lives than I can count. And really, is there a more powerful phrase than, “She believed she could…”???

Thank you to Tammy and her entire team!”
